News-12-15-NCBC-Gold-Medals

The year’s end brings an avalanche of gold to us at North Coast Brewing Company as we celebrate a record setting twelve gold medals in the World Beer Championships hosted by the Beverage Testing Institute. Our winning slate included some of our most well-known beers such as PranQster and Brother Thelonious, several expressions of Old Stock Ale, and our newer Belgian-style Saison, Le Merle.

We are delighted by this recognition, which reflects not only the unique character of many of our beers, but also how their flavors mature and change over time in the same way that fine wines improve with age.

This year we submitted a flight of vintages for several beers, resulting in a suite of medals awarded for different vintages. Based on our scores, the older the beer, the better. Our highest scoring brews, receiving 95 points each, were the 2003 and 2005 expressions of Old Stock Ale. The Barrel Aged Old Rasputin and Barrel Aged Cellar Reserve also received multiple golds for different vintages dating back to 2009.

We are also very proud of our winning trio of Belgian-style ales – Brother Thelonious, Le Merle, and PranQster – which reflect North Coast’s signature approach to brewing balanced and unique beers inspired by classic styles from around the world.
