June 2011 North Coast Brewing Releases Grand Cru
We're very excited to release our latest premium beer, Grand Cru. We’ve had a good time exploring the brewing possibilities outside of the standard beer styles; Grand Cru doesn’t fit neatly into any established category.
Reminiscent of our Gold Medal-winning Twentieth Anniversary Ale, North Coast Grand Cru is brewed exclusively with Pils malt, with an addition of agave nectar in the kettle. It’s subtle, complex, and lightly hopped with a deceptive 12.5% ABV, and aging it in oak gives this unique beer an extra dimension. The result is really champagne-like.
North Coast Grand Cru will be available in July in 500 ML bottles with a cork and wire finish and in 1/6 BBL kegs in limited markets throughout the country. Read more
March 2011 Wall Street Journal Picks Old No. 38 Stout as Their Top Alternative to Guinness "The dark stuff from Ireland is a fine beer—smooth, satisfying and surprisingly low-carb. But when it comes to pure flavor, Guinness cedes its foamy crown to American-brewed Irish-style stouts...As demonstrated in our picks here, the results are uncommonly good...
North Coast is probably more famous for their intense Russian stout, Old Rasputin, but save that one for dessert. For day-long drinking, go with Old No. 38, a smooth, rounded beer with a bit more chocolate and fruit sweetness than a typical Irish dry stout. Soft edges and a mellow, woody finish make it wonderfully complex. 5.5% ABV"
January 2011 North Coast Brewing Co. Honored at 1st Annual Good Food Awards Ceremony. In a ceremony at San Francisco’s Ferry Building hosted by Alice Waters, famed chef of Chez Panisse and
pioneer of the American slow food movement, North Coast Brewing Co. was recognized as a Good Food
Awards Winner. The Good Food Awards honor companies producing tasty, authentic foods in a socially
and environmentally responsible manner.
“We couldn’t be more pleased,” said Mark Ruedrich, President and Brewmaster of the Fort Bragg,
California-based brewery. “The craft brewing movement has been one of the most vital elements on the
American food scene for the past several years. Exceptional beers from small producers are leading the
way in expanding the country’s tastes and creating a place for themselves at the dining table.”
North Coast Brewing PranQster Belgian Style Golden Ale, the Good Food Awards winner, is brewed
with unique Belgian yeast strains that result in a fruity, floral character particularly well-suited to
complement a wide variety of foods. While PranQster has been honored with awards from national
and international beer tasting competitions, and North Coast has been named as “One of the 10 Best
Breweries in the World” by Chicago’s Beverage Testing Institute, this Good Food Award marks the first
time the brewery has been recognized by the larger, all-encompassing food community.

We travelled to Monterey in September to take part in the 53rd Annual Monterey Jazz Festival, the longest continuously-running Jazz event in the world. For the fifth straight year, North Coast was the sponsoring brewery for the Jazz festival (having replaced Anheuser-Busch). The brewery first came to the attention to the festival organizers upon the release of our "Brother Thelonious," the beer honoring Jazz icon Thelonious Monk, in April of 2006. Read more

April 2011 Chocolate & Old Rasputin!
CraftBeer.com:
"Chocolate rich Stouts go so well with high-percentage dark chocolate. The levels of bitterness and sugars, and in some cases, like [North Coast Brewings' Old Rasputin], the fruity notes are a good match.... Once they are in your mouth, there is little delineation between the beer and chocolate flavors. They pair together to create a beautiful balance of bitter and caramel. It really is magical."

January 2011 The Best Barleywine? SF Weekly's Blog, SFoodie, Picks a Winner: North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale
North Coast Brewing Company Old Stock Ale (Fort Bragg, Calif.): 9 points. Honey- and rose-colored and with minimal head, this was the panel's uncontested favorite. Nothing about the beer screamed "barleywine," but the marked aromas of applejack, cherry, oak, bourbon, and bread, along with hot flavors of boozy fruit, caramel, and very faint smoke, earned it the warmest reception.

October 2010 North Coast Brewing Co.'s Red Seal Ale & Acme IPA Honored Red Seal Ale and Acme IPA from North Coast Brewing Co. were named winners of their style categories at the recent Hong Kong International Beer Awards. In a competition dominated by European breweries, North Coast’s double honors stood out. The event was held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre with a goal of educating, inspiring and raising awareness of the “wonderful world of beer.” “We’ve been exporting our beers to China for a couple of years now,” said Doug Moody, North Coast Senior Vice President. “It’s an increasingly important part of our business and it’s been a pleasure to introduce our beers to a whole new country of enthusiasts.”
"Then there is the ACME IPA girl.... Put simply, she’s golden, literally and figuratively, not unlike the great state which she aptly represents. She’s cute, no doubt, as she can hold your attention as well as she can hold a beer while performing daring physical feats. Something all of us have attempted, few successfully. And look at that smile. She’s completely comfortable with herself..." read more ABeerNewWorld
