2013 – 2014 Season Tickets Now on Sale

 

Austin’s own Ensemble VIII is moving into its third season in the wake of remarkable critical success surrounding its concerts of the past two years. This amazing vocal group has been lauded for its “magnificent synergy” and has been identified as “a musical force that’s on its way to world-class status.” North Coast Brewing is pleased to be a major sponsor of this extraordinary vocal ensemble.

The 2013 – 2014 season will begin on Oct. 4 and 5, in Austin and Georgetown, Texas, with a program entitled Renaissance Splendor: Masterworks from German Lands. In addition to Hans Leo Hassler’s monumental setting of the Lord’s Prayer, Ensemble VIII will perform works by Heinrich Schütz, regarded as one of the most important composers of the 17th century, and Johann Hermann Schein, one of the first composers to incorporate Italian stylistic elements into German music. The season’s premier concert also will include exquisite polyphonic compositions of Leonhard Lechner and Heinrich Isaac.

The Friday, Oct. 4, concert will be at 7:30 in Austin’s St. Louis Catholic Church Chapel. On Saturday, Oct. 5, a matinee performance will begin at 3 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Georgetown.

This third season will continue with inspiring music of the Renaissance and Baroque eras in three additional concerts:

Lessons and Carols from King’s

December 17 in Austin, 7:30 p.m., and December 18 in Georgetown, 7 p.m.

European Masterworks for Men’s Voices

January 10 in Austin, 7:30 p.m., and January 11 in Georgetown, 3 p.m.

Love Songs from Italy

May 16 in Georgetown, 7 p.m., and May 17 in Austin, 7:30 p.m.

Season ticket prices range from $120 for regular seating to $160 for priority seating. To purchase season tickets and to learn more about Ensemble VIII, please visit the website. Tickets may also be purchased online for individual concerts.

All of the Austin concerts will be at St. Louis Catholic Church Chapel, located at 7601 Burnet Rd. The Georgetown concerts will be at First United Methodist Church, located at 410 East University Ave.

The mission of Ensemble VIII is to perform vocal works from the Renaissance and Baroque eras at the highest artistic level with a keen attention to scholarship and historically informed performance practices. The ensemble is based in Austin, Texas and is composed of highly trained early music performers from throughout the United States. Ensemble VIII is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

About Dr. James Morrow, Artistic Director

James Morrow is director of choral activities at The University of Texas at Austin where he conducts the Chamber Singers and Choral Arts Society and directs the graduate program in choral conducting. He is founder and artistic director of the Bach Cantata Project at the Blanton Museum of Fine Arts and is also founder and artistic director of Ensemble VIII, a professional early music ensemble devoted to historically informed performances of Renaissance and Baroque vocal works.
